This Cookies Policy applies to the Pelham Smithers Associates Limited’s (‘PSA’, ‘we’, ’us’) public website at pelhamsmithers.com (the ‘Website’) and the Research Platform at research.pelhamsmithers.com (the ‘Platform’).
The Website and the Platform use cookies differently, so they are described separately below.
A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers that we store on your browser or the hard drive of your computer. Cookies contain information that is transferred to your computer's hard drive.
COOKIES ON THE WEBSITE (pelhamsmithers.com)
Strictly necessary cookies. Cookies required for the operation of the Website, including security cookies set by Google reCAPTCHA, which protects our contact forms from abuse. These are always active.
Analytical cookies. The Website uses Google Analytics to count visitors and understand how the Website is used (cookies such as _ga). This information is aggregated and helps us improve the Website. Google processes this data in the United States. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, or block these cookies in your browser settings.
The Website does not use targeting or advertising cookies, and does not display advertising. The Facebook and LinkedIn buttons on the Website are simple share links, they do not place tracking pixels or cookies on your device.
COOKIES ON THE PLATFORM (research.pelhamsmithers.com)
The Platform uses only strictly necessary cookies, those required to keep you securely signed in. It sets no analytical, targeting or advertising cookies; our understanding of how the Platform is used comes from our own server records (see our Privacy Statement), not from cookies placed on your device. The cookies are:
• psa_session: set when you sign in; identifies your secure session so you stay logged in as you move around the Platform. Deleted when your session expires or you sign out.
• session: a short-lived cookie used only during the sign-in redirect to our authentication provider, protecting the login handshake against tampering. Expires within minutes.
• Sign-in provider cookies: our authentication provider, Auth0 (a trusted third-party identity service, hosted in the UK), sets its own cookies on its own domain during login to authenticate you securely and support two-factor authentication. These are strictly necessary for login.
Local storage (similar technologies). In addition to cookies, the Platform uses your browser's local storage to remember small functional preferences on your device: your chosen language (English or Japanese) and the last page you visited, so the Platform opens the way you left it. This information is set only when you use the relevant feature, stays on your device, is not used to track you, and is not shared with anyone. It can be cleared at any time through your browser settings. The Platform also uses short-lived session storage (cleared automatically when you close the tab) for minor housekeeping, such as remembering that a notice has already been shown.
Future changes. If we introduce analytical or other non-essential cookies to the Platform in future, we will update this Cookies Policy first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before setting them.
MANAGING COOKIES
If you use your browser settings to block all cookies (including essential cookies) you may not be able to access all or parts of the Website or the Platform.
If you have any questions or concerns about our use of cookies, please send us an email at info@pelhamsmithers.com or see www.aboutcookies.org or ico.org.uk/for-the-public/online/cookies
